Triborheology and orientational dynamics of ionic liquid crystals

Pogodina, N. V.; Amann, T.; Dold, C.; Metwalli, E.; Müller-Buschbaum, P.; Kailer, A.; Friedrich, C.

We present studies of triborheological properties and orientational dynamics of three imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) , and , by utilizing a variety of physical methods including DSC, SAXS/WAXS, rheology, flow dichroism and tribology. Results revealed that two ILs ( and ), which possess a liquid crystalline (LC) phase show…

Lithium-Salt-Containing High-Molecular-Weight Polystyrene-block-Polyethylene Oxide Block Copolymer Films

Metwalli, Ezzeldin; Rasool, Majid; Brunner, Simon; Müller-Buschbaum, Peter

Ionic conductivity in relation to the morphology of lithium-doped high-molecular-weight polystyrene-block-polyethylene oxide (PS-b-PEO) diblock copolymer films was investigated as solid-state membranes for lithium-ion batteries. The tendency of the polyethylene (PEO) block to crystallize was highly suppressed by increasing both the salt-doping level and the temperature. The PEO crystallites…

Multi stimuli response of a single surfactant presenting a rich self-assembly behavior

Gregorio, M. C. di; Varenik, M.; Gubitosi, M.; Travaglini, L.; Pavel, N. V.; Jover, A.; Meijide, F.; Regev, O.; Galantini, L.

This work reports on the multi stimuli sensitivity of a cholic acid derivative in a buffer. The molecules self-organize in single walled tubules at room temperature and pH 8.0–9.5. By increasing the pH to 10.0–12.0, these tubules open up and form scrolls, which transform by aging into different tubular structures.…
