Abstract
Multilayered polyolefin-based film systems are being used in packaging industry to add various functionalities by tailoring layer sequences, thickness and type of the material used in the final application. A new concept based on carbohydrates had been investigated and confirmed that similar functionality may be obtained compared to EVOH which is used so far to tailor barrier performance. Since processing conditions are of crucial importance in this case, monitoring of the changes in the carbohydrate structure via WAXD and SAXS studies at DSMās GANESHA system were essential in order to define the processing windows maintained in the final application.
